The Monk Strap Shoe - a James Bond Favorite

November 20, 2014

Once reserved for the formal calendars of the trendsetting elite, the monk strap shoe became a pop culture phenomenon the moment James Bond (a.k.a. Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan) paired the slick shoes with a dapper suit, making it part of his signature style. Aspiring sartorialists adopted the shoe as an emblem of refined taste – despite its humble beginnings as a working shoe for monks when their sandals just couldn’t cut it. What the men of the cloth invented out of practicality, the secular set transformed into a coveted symbol of aspirational style.

These days, street style aficionados have taken over where Bond left off, establishing the monk strap’s new identity as one of the most versatile trend in dress shoes. Monks bridge the gap between a semi-formal shoe and a formal lace up like a brogue or oxford. They look every bit as smart with a pair of turned up jeans as they do with a suit.

Try on our Dack's stylish Elgin monk strap shoes and set yourself apart from the crowd. Made of top quality 100% full grain calf leather, these double soles monk shoes are a must for any man's wardrobe.
