Single and Double Leather Soles
Our leather soles are crafted from premium hides, selected for their density and durability resulting from a slow tanning process. Each sole is precisely grooved to protect the Goodyear welt, then sanded, and the edge is waxed. The finishing is an art in itself: each pair is hand-trimmed, dyed, polished, and patinated. For added robustness and a distinctive character, we also offer a double-sole version, providing a more substantial profile and increased longevity.
Understanding the Difference: Single vs. Double Sole
1. The Single Leather Sole: This is the epitome of the dress shoe (as seen on last 11028).
• The Advantage: The sole becomes very flexible and molds to the shape of the foot.
• The Style: Discreet, elegant, and formal. It's the ideal sole for the office or formal occasions.
• Use: Primarily on dry surfaces or indoors.
2. The Double Leather Sole: Here, an intermediate layer (interlayer) is added between the welt and the outsole.
• The advantage: Superior thermal insulation and a thicker barrier against moisture. It takes longer to wear out.
• The style: More "country" or assertive. It gives the shoe an impression of power and stability.
• Use: Ideal for autumn/winter or for those who walk a lot on uneven surfaces (cobblestones, gravel).
Did you know? The double sole requires a longer break-in period because it is initially stiffer, but it offers exceptional comfort once the leather has softened.
Rubber Sole
Emblematic of British craftsmanship, our Goodyear-welted rubber sole combines robustness and elegance. Its distinctive pattern is not merely aesthetic: it is designed to prevent the accumulation of dirt and gravel, ensuring a clean and secure stride. Combining exceptional durability with natural flexibility, this sole offers immediate comfort and perfect insulation against the elements.
Why choose rubber (Dainite)?
1. The Studded Design: Unlike traditional "mountain" style lug soles, the studded pattern maintains the slim profile of a leather sole while offering the advantages of rubber:
• Functional: Mud doesn't get trapped in the terrain.
• Discreet: From the side, the shoe maintains an elegant silhouette, ideal for the office even in rainy weather.
2. Uncompromising Durability: The rubber compound used is high-density. It is resistant to both de-icing salt and the acidity of asphalt, unlike leather, which can absorb water and become brittle.
3. Shock-absorbing comfort: The rubber absorbs the micro-shocks of walking on concrete. It's the preferred sole for those who spend their days on their feet or who travel long distances in the city.
Care tip: A simple wipe with a damp sponge is all it takes to clean the sole. Unlike leather, it requires no specific drying time or application of grease.
