Full-grain calfskin leather is our highest quality, strongest, and most durable leather. It is a naturally soft and flexible material with excellent breathability. With proper care, this type of leather will develop a beautiful patina over time. The appearance of our burnished calfskin leather shoes is created by applying pressure to the leather to create tonal variations and highlights. This leather requires a protective coat of wax to prevent staining and preserve it. A good-quality shoe cream will help keep the leather supple for longer. It is important to clean the shoes before applying a polish. A wax-based polish should be applied regularly with a cloth and buffed with a soft brush or cloth to a shine. By using a darker polish, it is possible to darken the shoe to further enhance the natural highlights of the burnished leather.
Our polished calfskin is leather that has undergone a special finishing process to give it a highly lustrous appearance. It is initially stiffer, so the shoes may require a short break-in period when new. Polished leathers are naturally more water and stain resistant, and also easier to care for than full-grain calfskin, but care should still be taken not to saturate the shoes. If the shoes become very wet, be sure to air dry them away from any direct heat source. Use newspaper inside the shoes to absorb excess water. Clean the shoes with a damp cloth and wipe them dry before applying a polish. The polish should be applied with a cloth and buffed with a soft brush or cloth. A matching colored polish can be used to cover scuffs.
Our leather shoes require special care because they're made from high-quality leathers that require standard treatments. However, to preserve their structure and longevity, tips are provided on this page
Our shoes are handcrafted in England using the same lasts that have been used to make Dack shoes since 1999. Older Dack shoes made in Canada were designed in a different last, so there is a slight difference in fit.
Width F corresponds to our standard shoe width. It's an average width that, depending on the conversion chart used, is equivalent to a US width of D, E, or EE. Choose this option if you never have trouble finding shoes in stores; it suits most foot shapes.
Our D-width shoes are considered narrow, while our G-width shoes are wide. Opt for this one if you often feel cramped on the sides or if your feet tend to swell during the day.
Size H is extra-wide. Choose this width if you have a very wide foot or if you wear bulky orthotics.
Different styles fit differently. For example, our more contemporary styles CAINE, CORNWALL II, and RONNY are slightly longer and wider, while our MORGAN style is more fitted.
